Chris N’ Eddy’s – Hollywood – February 8, 2025

Burger Crew Meeting called to order on Saturday, February 18, 2025 at noon (Angela’s pick).

Members in attendance: Angela d., Trevor Y., Wayne T., Dennis K. (*waves*), and Innie C.

I. Ordering

The menu has one giant flaw: the small text is wrong! The last line in the bottom-right corner of the menu says: PICKLES, RAW OR GRILLED ONIONS & CHRIS N’ EDDY’S SAUCE

THE ONE THING CHRIS AND EDDY WON’T TELL YOU is if you order your slider(s) with grilled onions – aka Eddy’s Way – it doesn’t come with pickles, you have to ask for them. The opposite is true with raw onions – aka Chris’ Way – which comes with pickles.

We went in blind and found out the Hard Way!
– Trev and Angela ordered the Combo #2 with grilled onions
– Wayne and Innie ordered the Combo #2 with grilled onions
– The Burger Savant ordered the Combo #1 with raw onions and pickles

II. The Burger

The buns were soft and squishy on the outside and nicely toasted on the inside, adding great texture to each bite. The beef patties were seasoned well and had an impressive sear with bits of caramelization joy. In terms of meat-to-bread ratio, the crew agreed that a double was solid, even if the size of the “slider” felt more like a burger. I feel that Chris and Eddy probably call these sliders as more of an homage to the original sliders found in diners across America – wait never mind, I’m not gonna give them that much credit.

For the toppings, let’s start with the controversial onions and pickles. The grilled onions tasted sweet and thoroughly cooked down, but there was some serious pickle FOMO going around the table so we asked the cashier gentleman for some on the side. We were then transported back to 1930s Great Depression era upon receiving pre-portioned 4 oz. plastic cups, each filled with two pickle slices each.

I thoroughly enjoyed my raw onion and four pickle burger. It tasted like a modern In N Out style burger without the shredduce and tomato.

III. The Sides

We all got normal fries for our side. They were crinkle cut and honestly not that bad. They were double fried and fluffy on the inside, served with fry sauce. There is also unlimited Cascabella peppers available next to the register.

IV. Miscellaneous

This is on the Thai side of Hollywood, not as sketchy as the other side of the 101. Most of us found free street parking but there is a small parking lot behind Chris N’ Eddy’s. Food came out quickly and they have a fountain soda machine and Mexican cokes. The bathroom is single occupancy and looks kinda like a scary funhouse.

V. Value

I asked the members how much they would pay for their burgers, and the responses ranged from $4.90 to $11. Most said they would pay more than the listed price.

VI. The Verdict

Great burger, misleading menu. Not bad if you’re in the area but not worth driving out of the way for. Good pick, Angela!

The ratings: 3.6, 3.8, 3.9, 4.2, 4.2

Boulevard Gastropub – Compton – September 14, 2024

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at noon (Angela’s pick).

Members in attendance: Angela d., Trevor Y., Wayne T., Dennis K. (waves hello), and Innie C.
Slide member in attendance: Lucy Y.
Special Guest: Chris Y.

I. Ordering

The menu is stored in the cloud, accessible via QR code.

  • Trev and Angela ordered the Blvd Outlaw (med-rare) and a Smash Cheese Burger (off the kid’s menu)
  • Wayne used Uber Eats to order a Blvd Outlaw (med) because he thought the restaurant staff didn’t speak English
  • I ordered the Cali Club (med-rare) with kosher pickles instead of bread butter pickles
  • Innie ordered the Blvd Burger (med-rare) sans antics

II. The Burger

Each member of the crew had nothing but positive things to say about the buns. Some burgers are served with sesame seed buns, others with brioche. Angela was especially delighted with the seediness of hers but both choices are solid. If you’re partial to one, I can personally attest to the staff’s willingness to substitute ingredients… just ask!

Folks were less enthusiastic about the patties. While some complimented the pepper-forward taste and smoky aroma, they weren’t cooked to the doneness we had ordered and had no “pop”. The smash patty did get some love from Trev and Angela, but neither shared any with the rest of the group.

As the world turns, slices of bacon stir a controversy. This time, even though they were very generous with their porcine portions, the bacon tasted like it was cooked a tad too long,

III. The Sides

Included in the pricing of all of their burgers are french fries! And they were surprisingly good. Double fried, great texture, with a fluffy interior, albeit slightly under-salted. Fantastic choice of julienned potatoes!

IV. Miscellaneous

It’s mostly street parking and the worst kind: sparse and sketchy. On the flip side, if you’re looking for a quick taco, there are plenty of options. The owner was pretty cool; he came by and told us about their humble beginnings while his wife whipped up delicious cocktails. If you’re planning to chill here for a while, you may want to consider bringing a jacket!

V. Value

I asked the members how much they would pay for their burgers. The prices ranged from $9.50 to $15 (big range!) and so these burgers are considered overpriced.

VI. The Verdict

The ratings: 3.7, 3.8, 3.8, 4.0, and 4.0

THICC Burger – Los Angeles – Mar 16, 2024

Burger Crew Meeting called to order on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at noon (Angela’s pick).

Members in attendance: Trev, Angela, Wayne, Innie, and this month’s reviewer, DK
Special Guests: Chris, Marissa, Molly

I. Ordering
The options at THICC are as varied as their neighbor stalls in the Original Farmer’s Market. This self-proclaimed “old-fashioned LA burger joint” is subterfuge; the offerings are anything but conservative.

An optometrist on reddit told me it helps to squint.

Here’s what we ordered:
– Trev ordered the B.A.E. (beef patty, American cheese, bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, pickles, THICC sauce)
– Angela ordered the Screwburger (chopped cheeseburger, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, THICC sauce) and fried pickles
– Wayne ordered the Hollapeno (beef patty, pepper jack, charred jalapenos, caramelized onions, Kaylin & Kaylin jalapeno pickles, THICC sauce) and garlic fries
– Innie ordered the Hollapeno and garlic fries…
– DK order the… Hollapeno… and garlic fries…

II. The Burgers
Surprising quality in the heart of a touristy location! The buttery buns were good and hearty but not too bready. The patties had good sear and felt loosely packed, especially the Screwburger which Angela said felt looser than a sandcastle during high tide… but in an appetizing way.

The THICCness of the patties reminded us of how patties USED to be before the smash burger revival and it’s always appreciated when they ask how well you want the patty cooked and deliver on it! As for the toppings, notably the bacon was more chewy than crunchy and the jalapenos weren’t spicy but still flavorful.

III. The Sides
The garlic fries weren’t too garlicky (they use garlic paste) and had great crisp. They somehow stayed crunchy long after they should have expired, so whoever was frying back there did a bang up job. The fried pickles were also a hit, way better than expected, and a solid choice to stick in the burger if that’s how you roll.

IV. Miscellaneous
They are located in stall #126. They cook everything to order and they’re upfront about it – don’t come here expecting fast food! That said, their time estimate was spot on. They have indoor and outdoor seating (dogs not allowed indoors) which was such a shame because the decor was very cute.

V. Value
I asked the members how much they would pay for their burgers. The responses ranged anywhere from $10 to $15, on par with the menu’s prices.

VI. The Verdict
A great local spot to take your friends while showing them around! The ratings: 4.1, 4.1, 4.2, 4.2, and 4.3 #groupthink

Next month’s meeting: Amboy

Bored & Hungry – Long Beach – March 25, 2023

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:30am (Angela’s pick).

Members in attendance: Angela d., Trev Y., Wayne T., Innie C., and me, DK
Sliders in attendance: Marty, Ellis, Lucy
Special guest: Christian Y.

I. Ordering

The burger menu is limited so ordering is straightforward: double-doubles with raw onions, grilled onions, or onion rings.

Here’s what we ordered:
– Angela ordered the OG Burger combo
– Trev ordered the OG Burger combo with both grilled + raw onions
– Wayne ordered the OG Burger combo
– Innie ordered the Onion Burger combo
– I ordered the OG Burger combo

II. Burgers

These burgers had nice buns. They reminded us of Hawaiian bread with their squishiness and the slightly sweet taste they left on our flavor buds. The patties were nicely seared and seasoned well. Having two of them, each with their own slice of cheese, made for a well-ratioed cheeseburger. The pickles aren’t the classic Dill variety but tasted great nonetheless and the onions, for those of us who had the grilled ones, were nicely caramelized.

A deceptively large hand holding the OG Burger.

III. Sides

If you thought the burger menu was limited, check out their sides:
– Fries

Still, they were good. We weren’t able to identify the seasoning but I heard people speculating things like onion powder, garlic powder, eye of newt, etc. Whoever seasoned them was heavy-handed but the technique was great; the fries stayed crunchy throughout the meal.

IV. Miscellaneous

Get the combo, it’s only $2 more than the burger. Drink refills are $1 but don’t drink too much because there’s no bathroom. You’ll have to piss in their parking lot which is very convenient.

V. Value

The members were asked how much they would pay for their burgers. Our answers ranged from $11 to $15, slightly below the actual prices.

VI. Verdict

Pretty cool spot. More of a takeout place than a dine-in place, but a great option to have in the Long Beach area. The ratings ranged from 3.5 to 4.3.

Next Burger Crew meeting will be held at Moo’s Craft BBQ on April 8, 2023.

Nice Burger – Long Beach – October 14, 2022

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Saturday, October 14, 2022 at 12:30pm (Angela’s pick).

Members in attendance: Angela d. Trev Y., Wayne T., Innie C., and-a-me, DK
Sliders in attendance: Marty
Special guest: Marissa G.

I. Ordering

Nice Burger lives up to its name – 75% of its menu is served between buns! They’ve got a little something for everyone: a breakfast burger, a BBQ burger, one with a pineapple on it, even a Big Mac clone. All appetites are welcome.

The Menu. Look at all of those buns!

Here’s what we ordered:
– Trev and Wayne got the Big Guy (cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, thousand island)
– Innie got the Jalapeno Burger (lettuce, cheese, jalapeno)
– Angela got the Nice Burger (cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo, ketchup) w/ a gluten-free bun and no mayo
– Marty got the Jr. Cheeseburger (cheese, onions, pickle, ketchup, mustard)
– And I got the Mexicali (Nice Burger w/ bacon, guacamole, jalapeno, chipotle sauce)

II. Burgers

The buns were excellent. If you’ll excuse the football analogy, they were like an offensive line. Something about not noticing them when they’re doing well, blah blah sports stuff. Angela in particular, with her temporary dietary restrictions, said this was one of the better gluten-free buns she’s had. Nice praise! The fellas that ordered the Big Guy (the Big Mac clone) both expressed their dissatisfaction that the middle bun was in fact a bottom bun! Their disappointment was immeasurable and their days ruined.

The Big Guy with a bottom bun instead of a middle bun.

The Beyond patties received mostly great reviews. Again, the Big Guy dudes expressed their disdain for the mostly mushy texture, however the rest of us though the patties tasted great and had a nice sear, especially the crispy bits on the outer edges. The “cheese” was impressively good, much better than the vegan cheeses we’ve had in the past. God bless all of you cheese technologists out there!

The Spicy Burger with those nice crunchy jalapenos.

The overall composition of each burger was great. Each appeared to be well designed and balanced, offering a different style in addition to their flavor profiles. The Big Guy was soft and tender, the Spicy Burger and Mexicali had pockets of crunchy bits (both with fantastic distribution of jalapenos), and I forgot to write down what Angela and Marty said about theirs. Guess I didn’t think it was important enough to capture in my notes! But Angela was overall impressed and Marty’s a child whose opinions don’t really matter.

III. Sides

The sides were fried in soy bean oil and they came out great. The tots were crunchy and remained crunchy throughout the meal. The fries were nice and crispy. Each side comes with a sauce and those were fantastic, the ranch and chipotle especially. Don’t skip the sides!

IV. Miscellaneous

Nice Burger has multiple locations. The Long Beach spot is the latest and it’s located conveniently by a Metro station, so you have no excuse not to go unless you’re homeless and don’t have the funds. The seating is limited (indoor only) and even though it’s not mentioned on their Yelp page, there was a doggy sitting next to us so they appear to be dog-friendly. There’s plenty of parking, just don’t mind the dude living next to the dumpster.

V. Value

The members were asked how much they would pay for their burgers. Our answers ranged from $9 to $12.50, a little less than their actual prices.

VI. Verdict

Pretty good for vegan burgers! This kind of food gets me pumped. I’m hopeful that in our lifetime, we’ll have great tasting and super affordable vegan burgers. The ratings ranged from 3.7 to 4.1.

Next Burger Crew meeting will be held at TBD on November 12, 2022.

Eat Fantastic – Long Beach – May 28, 2022

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11am (Angela’s Pick).

Members in attendance: Angela d., Trev Y., Wayne T., Innie C., and yours truly, DK
Sliders in attendance: Marty, Lucy
Special guest: Christian Y.
Introducing the latest member of our growing family, Baby Ellis. Welcome!

I. Ordering

Burgers are made with 100% fresh ground beef, smashed to order. They offer pickles, onions, tomato, and lettuce – the typical accoutrements; but if you’re a one-percenter you can add on things like MORE cheese, bacon, avocado, etc. for a shiny buckaroo.

  • Trev and Angela ordered the Mamba Burger ($8.24), a double cheeseburger with bacon, grilled onions, mustard, and avocado; and a side of tots
  • Marty ordered a cheeseburger ($5.00) with extra pickles
  • Wayne ordered a double cheeseburger ($7.00) with grilled onions, mustard, and a side of garlic tots
  • Innie ordered a cheeseburger ($5.00) and a side of onion rings
  • I ordered a Mamba Burger ($8.24)

II. The Burgers

I’ll preface this by saying we probably should have eaten there. But one of our members, I won’t mention names, birthed a newborn just days prior. The food was ordered to go, the drive to the house was about 15 min, and we ate outside on the picnic table.

And just to be clear, it wasn’t me.

The buns were all over the place. Some said theirs were dry and bready; for others they were over steamed and almost congealed with their upstairs/downstairs neighbors. They didn’t fall apart though, and maybe in the end that’s all we can ask of our buns.

The American cheese on the cheeseburgers was very melty. They used Colby cheese on the Mambas and that was an understandable choice, but since 1776, there hasn’t been a better cheese to use on a burger than American. The patties had good sear but lacked pop in the seasoning. We all ordered our patties medium-rare but they came out looking more medium to well done, except Wayne who like a lucky dog got some pink meat.

As for the rest of the burgers, Wayne was a fan of the bacon, noting its high chew rating. Coming from a bacon enthusiast, that’s noteworthy praise! The biggest distractor for Innie was the shredduce. Whoever cooked her burger must have had the hands of Russel Wilson – she got too much shredduce! Ratios, man.

III. The Sides

Pretty good fried sides, considering they traveled in a bag for some time. The garlic tots suffered the worst fate. The garlic flavor was great but they were soggy from the oil. Wayne noted that had we had them fresh, they would have been crispy.

The standard tots fared better and stayed crispy through the end of our meal. Fried but not overly fried with a nice fluffy inside. They were great!

Same can be said of the onion rings. Innie mentioned she would have preferred beer battered (these were cornmeal onion rings). But they stayed crunchy until the last bite as well.

IV. Miscellaneous

This is a chain! If you’re in the El Segundo or Pasadena areas, look them up. The Long Beach location, even at 11:00am, was packed with cars. And with many restaurants these days, they looked understaffed. There was only one cashier and one cook holding it down on a Saturday!

V. Value

I asked the members how much they would pay for the burger they ate. Their responses ranged from $10 to $15.

VI. The Verdict

This place deserves another visit in person. The ratings for the at home edition: 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.2, 3.3.

Next Burger Crew meeting: Saturday, June 11th at 11am – Classic Bixby Burger – Long Beach.

Heavy Handed – Los Angeles – Nov 20, 2021

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Saturday, November 20th at 1:00pm.

Members in attendance: Angela, Trev, Wayne, Innie, and Decay
Special Guests: Chris and Slider Lucy

I. Ordering

Gotta love a lightweight menu. They only make one burger made of ground short rib, grilled onions, American cheese, house made bread & butter pickles, and heavy sauce on a potato roll. Single ($9), double ($11), and triple ($13) options are available.

Most excellent menu

Trev and Angela ordered a double with fries and heavy sauce on the side.
Wayne ordered a triple with fries and heavy sauce on the side.
I ordered a double with fries and heavy sauce on the side.
Innie ordered a double.

The fries ($4) are fried in beef tallow and the heavy sauce ($0.75) is Thousand Island-y.

II. The Burgers

Potato buns were great. Nicely steamed and gooey with just the right amount of chew. (Let it be known that brioche ain’t the only good bun…) More shops should consider potato buns.

Best friends hanging out in their wedding dresses~

At the heart of every good burger is a good patty and the patties here stand out. Great meaty flavor, perfect amount of seasoning, and good ratio with the buns. None of us got a single though, so your mileage may vary. Of course, draped over each patty is the Lord’s cheese, aka American cheese, melted into all of the nooks and crannies, melding flavors into a crescendo of mouthful lust.

Bread and butter pickles are always an interesting choice for burgers. The non-pickle snobs liked them, the pickle snobs shrugged their shoulders — what can you do? The onions were super caramelized, almost like jam.

Overall, the burgers had a warm, gooey mouthfeel that feels very familiar. Like something your grandma would cook for you when your parents weren’t around.

III. The Fries

And as good as the burgers were, the fries were just as good. They were very textured, crispy (and it held throughout the meal without sogging), and we were given a good serving size. Must be the tallow!

IV. Miscellaneous

Keep your eyes peeled for this sweet decal

If you haven’t figured it out by now, Heavy Handed is a food truck. They’re a bit slow posting their whereabouts on their website, which should be fine unless you’re planning a meeting of friends a month out. If you’re craving a great burger, these guys are worth going out of your way for!

V. Value

The members were asked how much they would pay for the burger and the responses ranged between $7.95 and $14.00 — so much for groupthink!

VI. The Verdict

The ratings were 3.9, 4.1, 4.4, 4.4, and 5.0. Another solid burger in LA!

Next meeting will be Sunday, Dec 12 @ nomoo.

Grill ‘Em All (Best of LA)

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 12:30pm (8th stop in Burger Crew Does the Best of LA).

Members in attendance: Angela, Sumana, Trev, Wayne, Innie, and your boy, DK
Special guests: Will, Chris, and baby Lucy

I. Ordering

Lord, please do not judge us. We know Grill ‘Em All has an expansive menu of burgers and each one would be a star anywhere else, but the group has jelled into a hive and these bees fucking love peanut butter, jelly, and sriracha. And we also happen to know that it hits the spot every time.

Sumana, Trev, Angela, Wayne, and I had the Dee Snider: peanut butter, strawberry jam, bacon, sriracha.

Innie ordered the Samoa Joe: cheddar, bacon, fresh pineapple, grilled onion, BBQ sauce.

II. The Burgers

The buns were fine. Standard brioche, good toast, ain’t nobody here for the buns. What makes Grill ‘Em All a must-have in your burger rotation are the patties. The half-pound patties are cooked medium-rare nearly every time. They’re seasoned well with a great sear, juicy as fuck, and meaty in taste. Wayne and Angela thought they had a few bites that were a bit chewy but nobody else seemed to mind. They may need to see their dentists.

The picture doesn’t do it justice. The Dee Snider tastes cute as hell.

For the Dee Snider, what a treat. It was a little messy like a burger should be. All of the flavors together with the added texture from the toasted buns, thicc cut bacon that was both chewy and crunchy, and bits of peanuts produced an unrivaled combination of mouth sensations. Tchaikovsky’s 1812 of burgers. Order it every time.

The Samoa Joe lookin’ pretty fly for a hand meat pie.

As for the Samoa Joe, the review was less enthusiastic. It was the first time I’ve heard a burger needed more friction, but when the contents are slippin’ and slidin’, that impacts the eating experience. The burger was also too sweet — on top of the generous slather of BBQ sauce and grilled onions, there were three whole slices of pineapple. Innie said the burger needed something spicy and something crunchy.

III. Sides

The fries were very enjoyable. Crunchy and salty, the kind everybody likes. The portion was very generous as well, enough for 2-3 normal sized people.

IV. Miscellaneous

One of the best things about this place is the free parking garage. God bless Alhambra. The place pre-pandemic was mostly indoor seating but they’ve since put a few outdoor tables out. They’ve got awesome heavy metal decor and the music to back it up, a good selection of beers, and unlimited refills from the fountain machine.

V. Value

I asked the members how much they’d pay for the burger they ate. They ranged between $12 and $16 which is just a bit over the asking price. Great value for one of the best burger shops in Los Angeles.

VI. The Verdict

The individual scores were 3.4, 4.1, 4.7, 4.7, 4.8, 5.0. Don’t be scared to try this spot!

Next up… the final destination for the weekend: Lock & Key Social Drinkery + Kitchen.

Everson Royce Bar (Best of LA)

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 9:00pm (2nd stop in Burger Crew Does the Best of LA).

Members in attendance: Angela, Sumana, Trev, Wayne, and forever yours, DK
Excused for hardship: Innie

I. Ordering

There are two burgers on the menu: the Single Burger and the Grilled Pork Chorizo Burger. The latter, due to its piggy patty, is not recognized as an official burger by high-ranking members of Burger Crew LA (but is still delicious).

After settling into our table, under the mellow incandescent light bulbs crisscrossed above, our matriarch ordered Single Burgers for the entire table. Wayne asked for his to be made a double. The waitress did not bat an eye.

The menu says the Single Burger ($10) is made with prime beef chuck, Tillamook cheddar, and dill pickle, all inside an egg brioche bun. The pickle was a spear and on the side, and their burger sauce (slathered across the bottom bun) was not listed.

II. The Burgers

The buns were slightly controversial. Half of the group thought the buns used to be gooier, toastier, and breadier, while the sensible ones (me and Trev) insisted they were fine. A few of us ended up with soggy bottom buns, however no one cared because…

These patties, man! First off, big props to ERB for delivering them medium-rare without having to ask. Heavy-handed with the seasoning, these patties popped with every bite. There was nice texture from the sear and it had great chuck flavor. It was a real treat!

And as if the burger couldn’t get any better, enter the burger sauce. Generously spread, it had a slightly tangy, black peppery flavor that was just… *chef’s kiss*. Literally perfect.

Here are some minor gripes:

The meat-to-cheese ratio seemed a little skewed to the meat side. Their choice of Tillamook cheddar is interesting because it seems deliberate. American is the no-brainer, so why go astray? If you know, leave us a comment!

Angela was vocal about wanting the pickle in the burger. She did not like the fact that she had to burn extra calories and manage her own acid.

III. Sides

We ordered a few sides of fries ($5). They came nice and crunchy with a healthy amount of seasoning, accompanied by little cups of ketchup and aioli. You’ll want these to munch on while basking in the afterglow of the Single Burger.

IV. Miscellaneous

Is this a bar with a great kitchen? Or a restaurant with great drinks? Whatever it is, it can get loud whether you’re indoors or out on the patio because the word’s gotten out: ERB is a great place to hang. The inside has swanky booths and their spacious back patio has great ambiance.

Street parking is free, though if you want a little security, there is a lot next to the bar. Look for the BAR sign over the bright orange door. If you know, you know…

V. Value

I asked the members how much they’d pay for the burger they ate. They ranged between $10 and $14 with the majority of us willing to pay more than the asking price. Great effin’ value for one of the best burgers in LA.

VI. The Verdict

The individual scores were 3.8, 4.7, 4.8, 5.0, 5.0. Go get this burger!

Next up… The Window at American Beauty!

Fckn Good Burgers

Burger Crew meeting called to order on Saturday, May 15, 2020.

Members in attendance: Angela, Trev, Marty, Wayne, and future K-Pop star, DK
Non-synchronously remote: Innie

We would like to personally thank the fine folks at the CDC for lifting the fckn mask and distancing restrictions for vaccinated peoples. Today marked the first in-person meeting of 2021. It’s fckn good to be back, folks.

I. Ordering
There are four burgers on the menu and we tried two of them:

The FCKN Good Burger
Beef patty with American cheese and house sauce with caramelized onions; served on a potato roll bun and possibly thrown around like a baseball before serving.

– Trev and Angela ordered a double with bacon
– Marty ordered a single
– Wayne ordered a double
– Innie had a double delivered to her

The Tommy
Beef patty with American cheese, bacon, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and ketchup; served on a potato roll bun and made to look like it walked away from a bad car accident.

– I ordered a double
– Innie had a single delivered to her

All of their burgers come with a sweet & spicy pickle spear. Someone must have stolen the entire fckn jar though because none of us got one.

II. The Burgers
The potato buns were nice and squishy like “memory foam without the memory” according to Trev. They weren’t toasted but we got good texture from the patties. It felt good biting into this burger. The patties had a really nice sear and a surprisingly beefy flavor for how thin they were. The easy choice of using American cheese meant that the patties were topped with a gooey goodiness that got nooked in all the crannies. There was consensus that the meat-to-cheese-to-bun ratio was best with the doubles, but in full disclosure, none of us tried a triple so the double might just be second-best.

As for the other toppings, the bacon was mostly crunchy and very tasty. The shredduce and the off-season tomatoes in the Tommy were nothing to write home about. Those who ordered the FCKN Good Burger liked the flavor of the house sauce with caramelized onions. Innie called out the fact that there were onions layered between each patty, which is so generous of them! But you know what’s not generous? Not getting any fckn pickles.

If you’re getting this delivered, stay away from the Tommy. Between the lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and residual steam, there’s enough moisture to make the burger look like it just ran a marathon. Innie said the even bacon was soggy!

III. The Fries/Sides
We might have spent more time talking about the sides than the burgers. The fried zucchini, tater tots, and onion rings were all so well done. Great crunch and they stayed crunchy long after cooling down. If they added a new Applebee’s style sampler platter to their menu, it would hands down be the best dish!

IV. Miscellaneous
One of the better designed physical distance markings in front of the shop. You’ll get blasted with a strong whiff of coffee once you walk in. Nice outdoor setup in the back with fake grass, string lights, fans, and heaters. The chairs are painted in a variety of bright colors which gives it a kind of Mexican aesthetic. There was a live DJ that was bumping great music during our Saturday lunch. Great vibe and super dog friendly! There may or may not be a bathroom though…

V. Value
The members were asked how much they would pay for the burger and the responses ranged between $9.00 and $13.00 which is in line with the actual prices. Good value!

VI. The Verdict
The ratings were 4.0, 3.9, 4.1, 3.8, 2.5, and 4.0. Another solid burger for West LA!

Next meeting will be on June 26th @ TBD.
